Growing concern for Irvine man missing for five weeks
Gordon Wilson disappeared from a ward at Woodland View hospital on July 2.
Concerns are growing for an Irvine man who has been missing for more than five weeks.
Gordon Wilson, 47, was reported missing after taking a walk from his ward in Woodland View Hospital.
Police are now asking people to search sheds and garage to find him.
Officers had traced him to Glasgow city centre, where he was seen on CCTV on Midland Street in a cafe that caters for homeless people on July 3. There have been no further sightings since.
He is said to be an active traveller and often hitch-hikes instead of using public transport.
Mr Wilson is 5ft 8in, of slim build, with thinning shoulder length greying hair.
When last seen, he was wearing blue jeans and a blue jumper with a hood. He was also wearing grey trainers with white soles.
Inspector Christine Boyd, Irvine Police Office, said: "Although confirmed seen in Glasgow recently, we know that Gordon travels the country extensively, usually hitch-hiking rather than using public transport, therefore we would appeal to motorists who may have been approached by someone fitting his description to contact us.
"He does live quite a nomadic lifestyle and habitually sleeps rough, bunking down in fields and other open spaces for the night.
"Therefore, we would again ask people, especially those who live more in the countryside or remotely, to check their sheds, garages or outhouses, to see if there have been signs of someone staying there who shouldn't be."
She added: "We would also ask walkers/hitchhikers/dog walkers who use out of the way fields to keep an eye out for Gordon or any areas of land where it looks like people are sleeping rough.
"We have been in contact with homeless charities throughout the country, including Ayrshire and Glasgow and the Highlands where it's possible that Gordon was heading to, but so far no one has seen him.
"Finally, we would appeal to Gordon himself to get in touch. Whilst he may not want people to know where he is, we have to make sure he is safe and well."
