A Mozart opera is to come to Ayrshire after being translated completely into Scots.

Amateur performers will take to the stage on Saturday for the world premier of The Magic Flute in the traditional language.

It follows a week-long course at the Harbour Arts Centre in Irvine run by the Ayrshire Opera Experience, where locals were invited to join in on the chorus for the production.

The course was led by tenor David Douglas, soprano Colleen Nicoll and pianist Andrew Johnston.

Douglas hopes to translate more operas into Scots dialect for his new Ayrshire project.

A spokesperson for the experience said: "Opera is often perceived as an elitist art form while the Scots language is often looked down upon.

"These productions treat Scots language with the same care and respect as any other language.

"It's a completely new experience for both the cast and audience."
