Police have arrested two men for selling goods door-to-door without a licence in Troon.

Both men, aged 19 and 20, have been reported to the procurator fiscal for the illegal vending.

Ayrshire Police Division have since issued a warning to residents who may be at risk of being scammed.

They advise that locals should always ask for ID of vendors, and never agree to give money without a license.

A police spokesperson said "We are encouraging local people to take some simple precautions to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of a bogus caller or an unlicensed salesperson.

"Our advice is simple - if in doubt keep them out."

They say that residents should always ask for identification if somebody attempts to sell goods at their door, and don't let anybody in who is not expected.
