Scotland Transerv will begin bridge resurfacing works on the A78 at Warrix.

On behalf of Transport Scotland, the £132,000 project will involve an eight-week programme of work to improve waterproofing, drainage systems and barriers on the bridge deck.

The project will begin southbound on Monday and last four weeks before switching to the northbound lane for a further four week duration.

The work will involve stripping back the road surface to allow necessary repairs to the concrete infrastructure, and a new environmentally-friendly drainage system will remove excess water, which will increase the lifetime of the bridge.

Gordon Gibney, Scotland TranServ's operations delivery manager, said: "We rescheduled these works in order to avoid any potential overrun into the Scottish Open.

"Scotland TranServ has worked closely with the local authority and Police Scotland throughout to avoid any unnecessary disruption for golf fans using the route to attend either tournament.

"This project will deliver long-term benefits to commuters, businesses and tourists using the A78."
