Irvine man jailed for selling sweets laced with cannabis
At Kilmarnock Sheriff Court, both Horsley and Feeney admitted drugs offences.
An Irvine man has been jailed for 13 months after selling sweets laced with cannabis.
Ian Horsley, 46, used Instagram to sell the snacks with business partner Conor Feeney from Dundee.
The pair ran the illegal "McWeedy Wonka Medibles" operation, which promised a "high" after a few bites of their strawberry fudge and chocolate chip cookies.
Undercover journalists were able to buy almost £100 worth of home-made cannabis products by using Instagram.
Tests on the three 100mg cookies, three 200mg chocolate krispy cakes, three pieces of 50mg strawberry fudge and six gummy sweets revealed tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis.
At Kilmarnock Sheriff Court, both Horsley and Feeney admitted drugs offences.
The court heard police raided Horsley's home after the press investigation and found 54 cannabis plants worth up to £32,400 growing in his garage and loft, along with the Cannabis Cookbook.
Horsley was also caught on CCTV posting the box of illegal goods at Irvine Post Office.
Sheriff Iona McDonald, said: "Mr Horsley is the one who was producing the drug and had 54 plants which yielded cannabis. In my view the only appropriate sentence is a custodial sentence."
Sheriff McDonald told Feeney background reports suggested he was "naive and easily led" but told him: "What you did was organise matters for Mr Horsley."
His sentence has been deferred.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "This case sends a clear message that criminals concerned in the supply of controlled drugs cannot hide behind social media."
