Hotel fined £10,000 after breaching Sky Sports copyright
The Crown Hotel in Newmilns was fined.
An Ayrshire hotel has been ordered to pay a £10,000 fine after infringing Sky Sports copyright.
The Crown Hotel in Newmilns will pay damages to the TV giant after successful legal action against the premises license holder.
They are also required to fund the placement of notices in local and trade publications advertising the ruling.
George Lawson, head of commercial piracy at Sky Business, said: "Orders like these demonstrate the seriousness of fraudulently screening TV programmes through the large penalty applied, but also through the order to fund advertising, which we hope will help to highlight the consequences of televising Sky's content illegally."
"We will not hesitate to take legal action against those pubs who continue to screen Sky Sports programmes illegally, to help protect Sky customers who are unfairly losing business due to this illegal activity.
"Licensees who choose to televise content in this way should be aware that they are at high risk of being caught and face substantial penalties
