A Glasgow firm has won an £8m contract for work at Kilmarnock's new "superschool".

Spie UK will be involved in key mechanical and electrical work at the new campus on the town's Sutherland Drive.

The superschool is named after the late novelist William McIlvanney, who attended Kilmarnock Academy, one of the schools within the complex.

The merger also involves James Hamilton Academy as well as New Farm and Silverwood primary schools with additional facilities for an early childhood centre.

A third new school, Sgoil na Coille Nuaidhe, offering Gaelic languages, will replace the existing service offered at Onthank primary and Grange Academy.

Spie have been involved in similar school projects throughout the county including North Ayrshire's Garnock Community Campus.
