South Ayrshire Council insists safety is not at risk after discovering three schools in the region featuring the same type of cladding used on Grenfell Tower.

The local authority found the material on Ayr Academy, Dalmilling Primary and Marr College following checks in the wake of the London tragedy, where at least 80 people died in a fire last month.

All three schools are considered low rise with no school over four storeys in the region affected.

The authority said the materials have a British Board of Agrement certificate, which confirms the are "fit for purpose" while measures such as sprinklers and fire alarms are in place.

The council's head of property, Donald Gillies, said: "These findings are not surprising given how extensively ACM - which comes in many forms - is used in the construction industry and we continue to have confidence in the safety of our school estate.

"To provide complete reassurance, we are continuing with further checks of our school estate over the summer months, however, we do not expect these to highlight any issues."
