Three children and a woman have died following a house fire in Bolton.

Emergency services were called to the blaze in Rosamond Street shortly after 9am on Saturday.

A man managed to escape from the house but the other four were still inside, Greater Manchester Police said.

A child was pronounced dead at the scene and a woman and two children were taken to hospital, but they were pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

The children include two boys and a girl, all under the age of 13.

The man, who managed to escape, is currently in a stable condition.

The cause of the fire is being investigated but it is not being treated as suspicious.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Bridge said: "These are utterly heart-breaking circumstances and our thoughts go out to anyone affected by this tragic incident.

"This appears to be a family home and we have been working to inform loved ones of this awful loss.

"This happened on a Saturday morning when many people would be up and about and I would appeal to anyone with any information about this incident to please call us."

Officers remain at the scene and roads in the surrounding area have been closed.
