British Airways cabin crew will carry out a fresh round of strikes at the peak of holiday season in July, the Unite union said.

Crew members will strike for two weeks from July 19 in a long-running dispute over pay.

The latest action comes on top of another strike action set to take place between July 1 and 16.

British Airways plans to hire in nine Airbus aircraft and crew from Qatar Airways during the strike period.

Unite is challenging the legality of that decision.

It says the money spent on the extra aircraft could instead have been used to resolve the dispute.

National officer Oliver Richardson said: "It's high time British Airways stopped spending millions defending low pay and its bullying approach by negotiating a settlement to this long running dispute."

A BA spokesman: "As during Unite's previous industrial action, we will ensure all our customers reach their destinations. In the current strike period, we are operating 99.5% of our normal schedule."

The company called on Unite to stop "unnecessary" strikes.
