A blind D-Day veteran is set to receive some replacement medals after his original ones went missing at a motorway service station.

Alfred Barlow's story went viral last month when he made an appeal on ITV News for his Second World War medals to be returned.

The 96-year-old lost them almost a month ago at Norton Canes Services on the M6 Toll near Walsall. He was returning home from a pilgrimage to Normandy at the time.

It left him absolutely distraught.

ITV News Central's coverage was noticed by actor Hugh Grant, who then decided to offer a £1,000 reward for the medals to be returned:

Charity Blind Veterans UK has been collating a reward fund for Mr Barlow to be reunited with his medals, which has now reached more than £10,000.

He will receive the replacement medals at Hampton Court on Wednesday.
