School children design energy saving calendar for 2018
19 primary schools took part in the annual South Ayrshire competition.
The final designs for South Ayrshire's Energy Agency School Calendar Competition have been unveiled.
The annual competition, which helps raise awareness of energy issues among young people, saw 19 primary schools take part.
Combining colourful drawings and energy saving tips and facts, 13 winning designs were chosen to represent each calendar month and the front page.
The 2018 calendars will be available shortly in council buildings and libraries.
South Ayrshire Council's Provost, Helen Moonie said: "We had a great response to this year's competition with more than 700 entries from across South Ayrshire with people highlighting a huge range of issues that were hard to judge.
"But we had to pick 13 to feature and the winning entries have now been compiled for the 2018 calendar, with the designs sharing insight and energy saving tips that will benefit the community in the coming year.
She added: "It's important that people of every age are clued up on the facts about climate change, and this competition helps to engage children about an important issue early on.
"I'd like to thank everyone for taking the time to get involved this year as without your continued support none of this would be possible."
Liz Marquis, director of the Energy Agency said: "Young people receive interactive energy lessons from the Energy Agency as part of the school curriculum. The resulting drawings and slogans are a superb inspiration to all of us.
"There is a serious need for all of us to use energy more carefully. We hope the young people will continue to be future leaders in this area."
