Young gaming fans urged to take part in coding club
Code Club will take place every Friday from July 7 to August 11.
Young people in South Ayrshire are being given the chance to get involved in the first ever Code Club.
The six-week pilot will be introduced by the council at the beginning of next month, and will introduce a new way of learning basic digital skills.
Public libraries across the country are now hosting regular coding clubs, where children learn to create digital games, programming, build animations and develop basic websites.
With group-based activities, the clubs are aimed towards children aged nine to 11 who currently have an interest in computer games.
Code Club will take place every Friday from July 7 to August 11 at the Cyber Centre in Carnegie Library, Ayr, and parents are advised that booking is essential.
The clubs have been made possible through the Scottish Library and Information Council (SLIC), which has trained more than 140 librarians across Scotland in basic coding skills.
South Ayrshire Council's portfolio holder for economic development, tourism & leisure, Councillor Brian McGinley, said he was sure the club would prove popular.
He said: "This type of activity is a great example of this Council's commitment to focus on helping children to grow, working in partnership and developing experiences that are both exciting and useful.
"It also makes the most of existing facilities by hosting innovative programmes that are modern and relevant.
"I'm very pleased that we are creating programmes like these that stimulate children's interests, improve their skills and increase their ability to cooperate and create and we will build on this moving forward."
