A new fine art gallery has been opened in Mauchline by Depute Provost Claire Leitch.

The Johnston Fine Art Gallery is housed in the Burns Memorial Tower, which has been brought back into commercial use by local artist Elaine Johnston after six years.

The gallery stocks original art by artists from across Scotland, and offers a wide range of prints, gifts and jewellery.

The Depute Provost said: "I think it's incredible that Elaine has transformed this iconic building into such an impressive exhibition and creative space.

"Not only does it give Elaine the chance to showcase her own wonderful work, but there are various displays from other local artists and craftsmen as well to enjoy.

She added: "This venture is a great boost for the local economy and a significant addition to the tourist attractions in the town which are linked to Scotland's national bard.

"I wish Elaine every success for the future and look forward to seeing the gallery go from strength to strength."

Elaine said: "I am delighted that the Depute Provost agreed to formally open the gallery. East Ayrshire Council has been very supportive of this new business venture for the town.

"This historic building is an inspirational work space as well as fantastic backdrop for the art we have on show. I look forward to welcoming new visitors to the gallery in the coming weeks."

To mark the opening, Elaine donated one of her paintings to local charity Break the Silence which provides support to survivors of childhood sexual abuse.
