Police were alerted to a "drunk man" in a van in Cardiff which matched the description of the vehicle that was driven into people in Finsbury Park a day before the attack, ITV News has learned.

Officers in South Wales were on the scene in the Welsh capital within half an hour of receiving the report of the man lying across the van's three front seats, seemingly passed-out.

It is not yet known whether South Wales Police spoke to the man, who is believed to be Darren Osborne, or whether he was still in the van when they arrived in the early hours of Sunday morning.

What does concern some is the suggestion that police may have had some form of contact with Osborne 24 hours before the attack outside the north London mosque, for which he has been arrested.

ITV News have asked South Wales Police and the Metropolitan Police for a response and we are awaiting a reply.
