A woman has won £250,000 after buying a £2 scratchcard to get change for a parking meter.

Call centre worker Marilyn Scott from Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, said she could not believe her eyes when she remembered to check it the next day.

The 27-year-old is now planning a "trip of a lifetime" when she visits a friend in Australia.

The massive payout attracted a lot of attention on social media, with many feeling a tinge of jealousy at her win.

One Facebook user was all too pleased at the win: "Could not have happened to a nicer person hope it brings you a great deal of happiness x."

Others appeared to be inspired to make their own scratchcard purchases, as Marilyn's big win comes just one week after another lucky Ayrshire lad won £300,000.

A Facebook user tagged his friend and said: "Another one shame it's not us though."

Another echoed his thoughts: "really need to start putting the lottery on and buying scratch cards lol".

Friends and relatives also took to the comments. Marilyn's gran commented: "So happy for you Marilyn , lots love gran xxx."

Another user tagged a friend, who supposedly knows the lucky winner, said: "gonny ask Marylin for a lend of a tenner?"
