The number of car users, cyclists, and bikers killed rose, while 12 fewer pedestrians died, according to Transport Scotland.
There were slightly fewer people injured overall, but more people seriously injured.

The Scottish Government aims to cut fatal accidents on the country's roads by 40% by 2020. The latest figures show a reduction of around 35%.
There were 338 fewer deaths on Scotland's roads in 2016 compared to 1950, the earliest year for which figures are available.
Since 1970, when 815 people were killed, the number of fatalities has fallen almost every year. There were 76% fewer deaths in 2016 than 46 years ago.
