A group of fundraisers from Dunure has raised almost £3000 for the neonatal unit at Ayrshire Maternity Unit.

A total of £2831.35 was donated to the unit by community group Benjamin and his Buddies after they held an afternoon tea and evening party in Dunure Village Hall and a teddy bears' picnic for children.

The group was set up by residents Margaret Masterman and Catherine McKinlay in the name of baby Benjamin Robinson, who spent several months in the neonatal unit when he was born.

The unit has been caring for little Benjamin since last December after he was born 12 weeks early, weighing less than 900 grams.

Speaking on the event's Facebook page, organiser Patrycja Ciesielska wrote: "With the love, care and amazing medical and emotional support from the team at the unit, Benjamin Harry Robinson is growing and developing well."

Clinical midwife manager neonatal services, Caroline Blake, said: "On behalf of the unit, I would like to say a huge thank you to Benjamin and his Buddies and the people of Dunure for their kindness and generosity."
