A section of the A90 has been closed after a car careered off the road and hit a sign.

The incident happened on the busy route heading northbound at Laurencekirk on Friday.

An air ambulance has been called following the crash, which happened just after 2pm.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "It looks like the driver has hit a sign.

"The road has been closed heading northbound.

"We would advise drivers to find alternative routes."
