Girls chosen to play Mary Queen of Scots and royal elect
Celebrations for this year's festival are set to get underway in August.
Five schoolgirls are to act as Mary Queen of Scots and her royal elect at this year's Marymass festival.
The annual festival, held in Irvine each year, is based historically on a medieval religious festival and local horse fair.
Thousands of visitors flock to the 12-day event, where more than 150 community-based events are held.
This year, 14-year-old Payton McGrath from Irvine Royal Academy will be crowned Marymass queen.
Joining Payton as her royal court are Elona Russell and Shannon Dearie from Saint Matthew's Academy, Saltcoats, and Olivia Smith and Mia Duffy from Greenwood Academy, Dreghorn.
