Charity to hold meetings in Ayrshire to discuss NHS
A series of public meetings will be held across Ayrshire next week.
A series of public meetings will be held across Ayrshire next week to discuss NHS services.
Parkinson's UK is urging local people who are affected by the disease to attend one of the meetings, which will be held in Cumnock, Maybole and Irvine on Monday.
East Ayrshire's meeting will be held in the Netherthird Community Centre in Cumnock, while the Hallmark Hotel in Irvine will be used for the North Ayrshire meeting.
People living in South Ayrshire are asked to attend Maybole Town Hall for their chance to talk about Parkinson's.
Parkinson's UK area development manager, Chloe MacMillan, said: "We know that people across Ayrshire really value the support of their consultant and Parkinson's nurses.
"And we also know that they are doing a very good job. However, there is widespread and growing concern that Parkinson's services in Ayrshire are now extremely overstretched.
"Some people have already told us that they have not seen their consultant for over 18 months and that it is becoming more difficult to contact their Parkinson's nurse.
"To get a fuller picture of the situation we want to hear about the NHS support that local people with Parkinson's receive. We want to hear from people with Parkinson's, their families and unpaid carers.
"Their views will help us to understand the issues and this will enable us to make the strongest possible case for improvements to the service."
