Pupils 'reported wall to staff' before schoolgirl crushed
Keane Wallis-Bennett died after a wall fell on her in a changing room at school.
Pupils warned staff about a wall which fell and crushed a girl at a Scottish school, it is claimed.
Keane Wallis-Bennett died after a wall collapsed on top of her in a changing room at Liberton High School in Edinburgh in 2014.
A Fatal Accident Inquiry into the circumstances of the 12-year-old's death began in the city on Monday morning.
Giving evidence at Edinburgh High Court, detective chief inspector Keith Hardie said several children reported seeing the wall move and two claimed they had told staff.
Mr Hardie said staff denied any knowledge about the children's concerns, however.
One schoolgirl claimed she had told three teachers about the wall, but said she was told it was "fine".
The inquiry before Sheriff Principal Mhairi Stephen QC is expected to last two weeks.
Addressing the court, Ms Stephen said: "The whole community was totally shocked by Keane's death. A young woman who attended school on April 1, 2014, and did not return to her family".
"School should be a safe place for people," she added.
Between 2012 and 2013, Edinburgh City Council allocated £4m between 108 schools for internal decoration and minor works.
Refurbishment of the boys and girls changing rooms had been the subject of a visual inspection only.
