A cyclist was assaulted by two men in Ayr.

The 27-year-old was cycling on Carrick Road late Thursday evening when he disembarked at its junction with Bowman Road.

He was then approached by a man who engaged him in conversation and walked with him for a short distance.

A second person then arrived and both men assaulted the cyclist, causing him to fall to the ground.

They also attempted to take his rucksack but ran off empty handed.

The injured man did not require hospital treatment but was badly shaken as a result of the incident.
