An officer in Ayrshire stole the hearts of the public when he visited a local singing group.

Constable Craig Marshall joined The Musical Minds singing group, who are comprised of people with dementia and their carers, for Dementia Awareness Week.

Audiences were stunned when Mr Marshall, who is part of the safer communities team, joined the group on stage on Wednesday for a rendition of Les Miserables' Bring Him Home.

The division posted a video of the officer, known widely as Ayrshire's singing cop, to their Facebook page, and people were quick to respond.

One Facebook user said: "Wow what a voice Craig! Absolutely fantastic!!!"

His sentiment was echoed throughout the comments section.

"Absolutely beautiful Craig have me goosebumps my fav le miserables," "Brilliant! What a voice!" and "This guy is a star!!!!!!! What an amazing voice!!!!" all featured underneath the three-minute video.

Another said: "Beautiful... great to see videos like this of police getting involved in their communities. Good job PC Marshall!"

His singing invited some to share stories of their own experiences with the trying disorder.

One wrote: "Fantastic Craig. Music is the one thing that brings people with Dementia alive. Well done."

An ex-officer also took to thank Craig for his performance: "Dementia has inflicted our family and as a retired officer I have to say well done to Craig for this........music and singing are at times the only way to communicate with sufferers."
