Name chosen for new Arran ferry after online competition
The public have decided on a name for the new Arran ferry.
A name has been chosen for the new Arran ferry after a public competition.
Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL) opened the online competition last month after selecting a shortlist of possible names with the Scottish Government and the Clyde River Steamer Club.
The shortlisted names were all inspired by Arran's history and geography: Glen Sannox, Goatfell, Hutton and Glen Iorsa.
In the end, MV Glen Sannox was a landslide winner, receiving nearly 50% of the approximately 2300 votes cast.
Two 335ft-long ferries are currently being built in Ferguson Marine in Port Glasgow, with a competition to name the second ferry, Hull 802, opening later this summer.
CMAL chief executive Kevin Hobb said: "We are delighted with the public's choice. Glen Sannox reflects Arran's history and heritage, bringing back to life the name of the first purpose-built car ferry that serviced the Isle of Arran.
"Thank you to everyone who took part and voted and congratulations to Mairi Brown who won our naming competition - we look forward to welcoming her to the ferry launch later this summer."
