Residents in Cumbernauld have been left without water on Sunday due to a burst water main.

The problem was first reported after 9am on Sunday morning, when locals were unable to get a water supply.

Scottish Water staff are working on repairing the burst to a 30in main.

The affected main has been located and isolated and Scottish Water say repairs will be carried out as quickly as possible.

The burst was affecting around 6000 properties in the area.

The areas currently affected are in East Carbrain, West Carbrain, Town Centre, Seafar and Kildrum.

A spokesperson said: "The Scottish Water team are putting plans in place for alternative supplies to get as many customers as possible back into supply as soon as they can.

"These include backfeeds and tankering in water to the network.

"Scottish Water apologies for this disruption to supply for customers in the area and our teams will work hard to ensure a full repair is carried out as quickly as possible."
