Colin was born in Kilmarnock in the late 1950s
Hometown Hero is a series celebrating some of the area's best known and widely-loved names.
Have you ever noticed that there aren't any cabinets in cabinet meetings? Or that is probably isn't the best idea to perform a vasectomy during an earthquake?
In his 20 years on Channel 4's comedy show Whose Line is it Anyway?, Kilmarnock-born Colin Mochrie has brought some of the world's greatest quips to the strangest questions.
Although his accent does not quite reveal it, Colin was born in Scotland in the late 1950s, and moved to a quiet French village just outside of Montreal, Quebec, when he was seven. The family later moved to Vancouver.
He auditioned for the Channel 4 improv show Whose Line is it Anyway in 1989 but was turned away by directors. He returned a year later and finally made the cut.
One of his most famous nicknames, Captain Hair, stems from a superhero naming skit, wherein an audience member boldly commented on his lack of hair.
Colin was named Canadian comedy person of the year in 2013, and went on to win a Gemini award and a Writers Guild of Canada award for This Hour Has 22 Minutes.
He currently lives in Toronto with his wife Debra McGrath, and returned to the screens for The CW's revival of Whose Line is it Anyway?.
