A woman with multiple sclerosis (MS) has taken part in a sponsored microlight flight to raise funds for respite centre Leuchie House in East Lothian.

Kitty Walker, formerly a PE teacher at Kirkland High School in Methil, Fife, was diagnosed with MS in 1983 and has been a wheelchair user for more than 20 years.

The 62-year-old has visited Leuchie House in North Berwick several times a year for respite breaks since 2015.

Recently she realised, she sometimes had to wait for a mobile hoist to become available to get her in and out of bed because so many people needed to use the few available.

To say thank you to Leuchie House for all the care she received, she decided to set her sights on raising the £3000 needed to buy another mobile hoist.

"To me Leuchie is the best place on earth," explains Kitty. "It's the one place I can come that has all the care and the equipment that I need to be able to have a holiday.

"It gives both me and my primary carer, Jan, a break from one another and a chance to fully recharge our batteries.

"Raising money to buy another hoist seemed like the ideal way to give something back to Leuchie which lots of people will be able to benefit from."

Kitty took off  from the East of Scotland Microlight Centre at East Fortune at 2pm on Tuesday.
