Scottish Labour councillor announced as Midlothian provost
Councillor Adam Montgomery has represented Penicuik since 1996.
Councillor Adam Montgomery has been elected as the new provost of Midlothian.
The Scottish Labour councillor has lived in Penicuik for the past 36 years with his wife and three children as has represented the area since 1996.
This will be the second time Mr Montgomery has been elected as provost having first taken up the role in 2007.
He takes over from Joe Wallace who was elected in 2012.
At the first meeting of Midlothian Council following local elections on May 4, the new council also elected councillor Margot Russell as depute provost.
Derek Milligan has been appointed as council leader with Jim Muirhead serving as depute.
Of the 18 councillors elected earlier this month, seven are Scottish Labour, six are SNP and five are Scottish Conservatives.
Labour are currently running a minority administration but a deal could still be done.
