Hometown Hero is a series celebrating some of the area's best known and widely-loved names.

While Scotland's music scene may be best known internationally for walking 500 miles, another famous band shot to fame in the 1980s - with its leading lady hailing from Ayrshire.

Singer Lorraine McIntosh was born in Cumnock in 1964 and famously became one of the lead singers in Glasgow-based group Deacon Blue.

The band released their debut album, Raintown, on May 1, 1987, in the UK and in the US in February 1988.

Their second album topped the UK Albums Chart for two weeks in 1989, featuring their first UK top ten single Real Gone Kid.

Lorraine married fellow Deacon Blue singer Ricky Ross in May 1990 before the band split up in 1992.

The singer-songwriter has also pursued a short acting career and starred in River City and Taggart.

Lorraine remains part of the reunited Deacon Blue, who this year celebrated 30 years of their debut album Raintown.
