A 12-year-old girl has been rescued in Largs after becoming trapped between rocks on Wednesday night.

The girl's leg was caught in a rocky area of the shore for more than 90 minutes from around 7.30pm.

There was a full emergency response involving police, Scottish Fire and Rescue, RNLI, coastguard and ambulance.

She was transported to hospital after suffering a leg injury.

The Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team was diverted from pre-planned Wednesday night training to assist in the operation.

A spokesman said on Thursday: "Last night's rescue highlights the excellent multi-agency working between all of the emergency services utilising a wide range of specialist skill sets to assist in challenging conditions and terrain.

"The operational capabilities of the lifeboat greatly assisted in the smooth extraction of the injured female to ensure she was transferred into the care of the ambulance service as quickly as possible."
