A driver has been shot in a gangland shooting in Glasgow.

The 37-year-old man, Steven Daniel, was targeted while driving on Craighall Road in the city's Port Dundas area, close to a junction of the M8.

Police said the shooting happened at around 12.10am on Thursday.

Mr Daniel, also known as "Bonzo", has been taken to hospital with serious facial injuries but they are not thought to be life-threatening.

Forensic teams have been studying a car at the scene of the shooting.

A police spokeswoman said: "At around 12.10am on Thursday, a 37-year-old man was shot while driving his car in Craighall Road, Glasgow.

"He was taken by ambulance to hospital where he is being treated for facial wounds. Medical staff described his condition as stable. Enquiries into the incident are continuing.

"Craighall Road at the slip road to the M8 remains closed to allow officers to carry out their investigation. Local diversions are in place."
