Kelburn Castle secures £1m glamping funding boost
Site in North Ayrshire has been hosting members of the public since 1977.
A North Ayrshire estate has received a £1m funding boost to expand its camp site.
Glamping, a more luxurious form of camping, is one of the main attractions at Kelburn Castle near Fairlie.
The site and castle grounds have been open to the public since 1977 with the work of four graffiti artists helping to re-establish the area as a popular tourist destination.
Now Barclays bank has stepped in to provide the seven-figure sum, which aims to drive visitor numbers up over the next few years.
Kelburn Castle commercial manager David Boyle says plans for the site include building nine new yurts.
Scott Howie, from Barclays, said: "The importance of estates diversifying their offering and developing new income streams is vital for creating long-term sustainability, whether it's introducing renewables or opening their doors to the public to enjoy their heritage."
