Ayr Academy has invited members of the public to a special open day to celebrate the school's history before the move to new premises.

The open day will be held on Saturday, June 10, in the old building on Fort Street.

Pictures of the old school will be on display in a special exhibition, alongside designs for the new school.

People will get the opportunity to look around the building, with guided tours and performances from the school choir.

Donald Gilles, South Ayrshire Council's head of property and risk, said: "I'm sure the local community will want to come along and have a last look around the old building in its current form, as we prepare for an exciting new chapter in the site's long and productive history."

In August, students and staff will relocate to Ayr Academy's new premises in Craigie Estate.

Plans to refurbish the Fort Street building as the home of Ayr Grammar Primary are waiting approval.
