Mother demands answers over psychiatric patient's death
A fatal accidcent inquiry will be held into the death of Dale Thomson at Carseview.
An anguished mother is demanding answers over the care her son received at a psychiatric unit in Dundee.
Dale Thomson took his own life after being referred to the Carseview Centre at Ninewells Hospital in 2015.
The circumstances of the 28-year-old's death will be examined at a fatal accident inquiry, which begins on Monday.
Mandy McLaren told STV News she wanted her son to be detained at the centre.
The family say he was not properly assessed after he was sent there in Janaury 2015.
NHS Tayside has admitted his care fell below the standards expected.
Mrs McLaren said her son was a typical "Jack the lad" who thought he was the "bee's knees" but after the father-of-one developed mental health issues he was referred to the unit.
His mother said: "The GP said he needed to send him for an emergency assessment because Dale had said he'd tried to hang himself a few days before."
Mr McLaren attended three times but was not detained at the centre.
Describing the pain her son was in, she said: "It was like he was in this black hole and he couldn't get out and nothing he was doing was making it better."
After leaving Carseview for the final time, he was found dead in his home by his mother and brother.
Mrs McLaren said she wants the medics involved to be held accountable.
Protests were held outside the centre in March 2015, with families of patients saying they received a lack of support.
