The world's only festival dedicated to biographies and memoirs has been held in Cumnock.

This year's Boswell Book Festival included actors Alex Norton and Nigel Havers, politician Sir Malcolm Rifkind and the ex-editor of Vogue, Alexandra Shulman.

The three-day event held at Dumfries House also featured former Labour minister Alan Johnson.

Named after Ayrshire writer James Boswell, the inventor of modern biography, the festival is now in its seventh year.

His best-known book, the Life of Dr Johnson, has remained in publication since 1791.

The festival also included a children's section with a range of activities and storytelling workshops on offer.
