A man has been arrested for allegedly stealing a car and driving drunk in North Ayrshire.

A member of the public reported a break-in at a property on Glencairn Street in Stevenson at about 5.30pm on Wednesday.

The man, 35, has been charged with theft by housebreaking and road traffic offences including driving while unfit through alcohol.

Chief inspector Brian Shaw said: "This is a great example of communities working together with the police - we would like to publicly thank the member of the public for their assistance and we hope this encourages anyone who sees someone acting suspiciously to contact us immediately."
