A man has been arrested following an armed robbery at a Stevenston petrol station.

A two-figure sum of money was stolen after the man brandished a knife and demanded the service assistant hand over money  on Boglemart Street.

The service assistant, a 63 year-old woman, was uninjured as a result of the incident on Saturday.

The man was dressed entirely in dark clothing.

Police Scotland can confirm a 37-year-old man has been arrested and is presently detained in police custody following the incident.

A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal and the man is expected to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Tuesday.
