A bogus Facebook post claiming actor Tom Hardy was in Arran has caused a stir on the popular island.

The Utter Nonsense Films - Arran Facebook page shared an apparent screenshot of a tweet from the actor, attracting more than 3000 likes.

The screenshot read: "Just arrived on Arran. This could be the worlds most beautiful island. Checked into Lagg ahead of tomorrow's shoot. I can't wait to walk my dogs here. #Amazing #Arran".

But while some fans noticed the post to be fake, others were already planning a day trip to the island.

One Facebook user from Stevenston posted: "Tom Hardy is in Arran right now. F***the ferry I'll swim over. Who's joining me."

Another blamed her Arran-dwelling friend for not passing on the memo: "WHY DID YOU NOT TELL ME??"

But the excitement soon turned to disappointment as fans later found out the post was indeed fake.

One Facebook user was not quite ready to give up the possibility of meeting the Hollywood star, and ordered her friend to "go get him and bring him to me".

And some, especially poor Michelle, will take a little more time to recover from the disappointment: a Facebook user from Gourock informed his friend that "Michelle was wetting her pants with happiness as well haha..."
