Residents in South Queensferry will discover if a replacement bus service will go ahead next week as a May 8 deadline looms.

In March, Stagecoach announced it would withdraw the No 40 service which runs from Edinburgh, through to Dalmeny and South Queensferry on June 5.

The local authority are in talks with Stagecoach's rivals, Lothian Buses to provide a replacement service starting on June 6.

Having indicated they were keen to go ahead, Lothian now have until May 8 to officially confirm the move and register the new service.

Transport convener Lesley Hinds said: "I have been given assurance from both officers and Lothian Buses a commercial bus service will be provided from Monday, June 6.

"I would urge Lothian Buses to register services as quickly as possible to give confidence to both the community and the council."
