
Fire rips through gorse near former dynamite factory
Fire crews have been battling a large gorse fire in Stevenston for over 12 hours.
A large gorse fire near an old dynamite factory in Stevenston has been tackled by firefighters.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) was called out to the incident on Wednesday night.
Three engines have attended to try to control the flames near the old Alfred Nobel dynamite factory.
A spokesman said: "Firefighters in Stevenston, North Ayrshire, remain at the scene of a large gorse fire that was reported to the emergency service at 8.17pm on Wednesday, May 3.
"A total of three fire appliances were mobilised after fire took hold in open ground near Central Avenue affecting an area approximately 100 metres by 100 metres.
"Crews used beaters to tackle the flames and to protect nearby derelict buildings. Firefighters remain in attendance as they work to ensure the area is made safe."
