Thieves have used a stolen BMW to ram raid a Co-op shop in Dundee.

The shop on Lawers Drive remains cordoned off following the raid at 4.30am on Thursday.

Cigarettes were stolen and it is understood a black BMW with the registration N111 RNC was used to ram raid the front door down.

The car was reported stolen from Silport Place in Carnoustie, Angus, on Thursday. It may have suffered damage to its rear.

Detective sergeant Sarah Brow said: "I am appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time to come forward and assist our enquiries.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the BMW between Carnoustie and Lawers Drive in the early hours of this morning or anyone who knows where the car is now.

"Officers are carrying out a review of CCTV and door to door enquiries."
