A former health and safety manager for the oil and gas industry is aiming to save the lives of offshore workers involved in accidents at sea.

Simon Lamont from Dundee has created a garment called the Centurion 3, which produces immediate heat when submerged in extreme cold water.

He was motivated by the 2009 Super Puma crash in which 16 men perished in the North Sea.

With the help of Business Gateway, Simon has secured more than £100,000 of funding for research and development.

Business Gateway Dundee's Michelle Shepherd said: "We knew instantly that Simon's idea had huge potential but we had to ensure he had a very clear plan of how to proceed, especially as external investment and funding would play a crucial part in his development."

It is hoped the product will be ready for market by early next year.
