A newlywed couple opted to cut into a rather special wedding cake - a tower of steaming Scotch pies.

Chris and Laura Gough from Saltcoats have been together for almost nine years and tied the knot last week.

The pair, who have two young children, decided to tuck into their favourite delicacy at their reception.

"We have both loved the Kandy Bar pies for years," says Chris, who proposed to Laura in July last year.

"We wanted something a bit different for our wedding cake.

"So we came up with the idea of the pie cake and went in to see Rona and the guys at the Kandy Bar and they sorted it out for us.

"After all, they are the Scotch pie world champions."

The Kandy Bar, crowned Scottish Baker of the Year 2016, posted on its Facebook page to congratulate the couple.

The post read: "Congratulations to the 'Happie' couple who chose a Scotch Pie Wedding Cake for their special day at the weekend. Brilliant idea. Team Kandy Bar wishes (them) all the best."
