Archaeological dig at Ardrossan Castle this weekend
The dig comes after a survey suggested that there are anomalies under the ground.
Keen archaeologists have taken to Ardrossan Castle this weekend to dig in and around the church on Castle Hill.
The dig, which is being supervised by Rathmell Archaeology of Kilwinning, was commissioned by Ardrossan Castle Heritage Society in response to a survey conducted last year.
The survey results suggested that there are anomalies under the ground that could potentially be a churchyard wall, tomb remains, a road and buried gravestones.
Digging will continue on Sunday April 30 from 9am to 4pm, and there will be another chance to take part on May 13 and 14.
Simon de Morville first built the castle around 1140 with William Wallace said to have destroyed the castle, which was then occupied by English forces at the time.
