A Saltcoats youngster has had her long locks chopped off to raise funds for the Ayrshire Hospice.

Thomasina Balfour, who is only eight years old, has already broken her original fundraising target of £350.

Just days after reaching her target, little Thomasina headed to Sheryl's Barbers in Stevenston to receive her long awaited hair cut, which was streamed live on Facebook.

Speaking on her JustGiving page, the Castlepark Primary school pupil said: "I want to cut my hair to make a wig for little girls who don't have their own hair."

Thomasina's hair will go to the Little Princess Trust, and the funds raised will go to the Ayrshire Hospice.

The hospice cares for adults in Ayrshire and Arran with life-limiting illnesses, helping them live as actively as possible to the end of their lives.

The charity provides a free service to patients, but needs to raise over £4m each year to help fund their work.
