Confectionery giant Nestle has announced plans to cut seven jobs at its Girvan factory.

The Swiss company is planning to axe almost 300 jobs across the UK in 2018.

The cuts come ahead of the company's plan to move the production of one of its largest biscuit brands, Blue Riband, to Poland.

The Girvan factory, which has operated in the Ayrshire, Dumfries and Galloway milk field since 1979, currently manufactures milk crumb used in different Nestle products.

Nestle said the proposals are being made to ensure the sites operate "more efficiently and remain competitive in a rapidly changing external environment".
