New cycle safety pilot project launched in Edinburgh
Officers aim to encourage cyclists to return to the city's streets.
A new safety project aimed at encouraging cyclists back on to the roads will be piloted in Edinburgh.
Drivers who pass too closely to unmarked police cyclists will be targeted as part of Operation Close Pass, with officers capturing footage on a bike-mounted camera.
Police say many people are deterred from cycling in the capital due to fears over dangerous driving and vehicles passing too closely.
Originally developed by West Midlands Police, should the project prove to be a success then it will be rolled out across Scotland.
The project was officially launched on Telford Road, with police representatives joining Cycling Scotland chief executive Keith Irving.
