A 'gruesome' group from the Edinburgh Dungeon entertained runners taking part in the Great Edinburgh Family Mile and Toddler Dash.

A 'scare point' was set up outside the dungeon to provide music, entertainment and encouragement for the thousands of runners passing by on Friday.

Characters including Edinburgh's most prolific witch Agnes Finnie, a flesh hungry member of the Sawney Bean Cannibal Clan and the blood-thirsty Torturer took part.

In addition to the five-mile family event, the main ten-mile run starts and finishes in Holyrood Park.

Runners can enjoy some of the city's famous landmarks such as the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh Castle, Greyfriars Bobby and the beautiful Arthur's Seat.
