Five people were injured after two cars collided on the A93 road.

The collision was reported near Meikleour in Perthshire at the junction with the A984 shortly after 10am on Friday.

Fire crews used cutting gear to free some of the casualties who had become trapped in the wreckage.

A fire service spokesman said hydraulic stabilising gear was also used to allow rescuers to free casualties who had been trapped.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said a Mitsubishi Outlander and a Volkswagen Sharan were involved.

She said: "Five people were injured in the incident. The injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

"The casualties are being taken to Ninewells Hospital for treatment, and traffic is being managed in the area whilst the vehicles are recovered."
